John — as you read this email, an armed demonstration is taking place outside the Michigan State Capitol. Only two weeks ago, demonstrators carrying assault rifles roamed the State Capitol building trying to intimidate people, including Michigan lawmakers, chanting and demanding an end to the state's stay-at-home order.
But if you think this protest is about freedom, think again. It's another example of how the far-right and the gun lobby are peddling their extremist agenda during this pandemic.
One of the main drivers of the recent protests in several states against the stay-at-home orders is a series of Facebook pages created by a handful of gun extremists who run a network of far-right gun rights groups. These sites, and pages like them, are often riddled with death threats and conspiracy theories about COVID-19.
Your urgent support for Everytown for Gun Safety and our volunteer network, Moms Demand Action, will help us fight the gun lobby every single day and expose these dangerous demonstrations for what they really are.

President Trump has added fuel to the dangerous situation in Michigan when he tweeted "LIBERATE MICHIGAN" before a previous armed protest there.
These demonstrations have taken public ugliness to new and increasingly dangerous levels. Recent Facebook posts have been filled with death threats and hate speech, including specific threats against Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
The NRA and other gun groups are using the tragedy of COVID-19 to push their extreme "guns everywhere" agenda, and incite rageful protests against elected officials. This madness needs to stop now.
Support our movement to overcome this gun extremism and work with the majority of Americans fighting for common-sense gun safety. Please donate today.
Thank you for all you do,
