John, how are you? These past two days have been tough, but I’ve been thinking non-stop about what we accomplished here together despite a political environment that was against us at every turn.

When you start to feel despair over what happened in the Presidential race, remember that really is only part of the story. There are bright lights everywhere, including right here in MI-03. We overcame unimaginable odds in 2022 when we flipped this 50-year stronghold and elected the first pro-choice woman to represent West Michigan. Then, this year, despite a country trending FAR and FAST to the right, we sent the first Democrat since the Civil War BACK for a second term to Congress.

So, as I think about the dark and troubling road that lies ahead, I’m honored to be able to shine a light on it. I’m not agonizing; I’m organizing. I want to be able to help replicate what we’ve built here in West Michigan in other places across the country. Because the reality is, MOST Americans are with us on the most critical issues–protecting a woman’s right to choose, ensuring we have clean air to breathe and water to drink, and protecting our kids from gun violence, among others. But they ALSO need leaders who will listen to their concerns on the economy and DO SOMETHING about it.

Democrats Again Banked on the 'Blue Wall.' It Crumbled. | The New York Times

"Representative Hillary Scholten, a Democrat who won re-election on Tuesday in a historically conservative part of West Michigan, said there were still reasons for electoral hope in her party. 'We got too lost in the data and weren't listening enough to the American people about how they were feeling,' she said. 'You try to tell a working mom of four kids that she shouldn't be worried about the economy because the GDP looks really strong, she's going to say, 'Get out of here, you don't understand.'"

…but it didn’t crumble for MI-03.

That’s exactly what I’m doing, and I want to help other candidates do the same. So that we can continue to grow and expand a NEW GENERATION of leaders. It’s up to us now–those of us who KNOW what works on the ground.

So today, I’m reaching out about my leadership fund, A Pleasant Peninsula PAC–a fund that will help me grow and expand our bench of leaders ready to face the challenges of not just the next 4 years but the next 40 years. If you’re feeling despair over where we are but unsure where to put your frustration, I am asking you to consider a small investment in the future through my leadership. I need you in my corner to face the road ahead. Would you consider a $25 or $50 contribution to help us expand what we’ve built here: [link removed]

If you’re able, we’d be honored to have you support the future we’re building. Your contribution today ensures we have the resources to build a foundation for the work to come.
