Hi Reader,
ProPublica’s role as an investigative newsroom is to tell the verifiable truth with facts, data and receipts. While the months and years ahead indicate major changes in the role of government in our lives, our resolve to continue this work remains as steadfast as ever.
We’ve proven time and again that when our work gets into the hands of readers, swells of reform can happen. During President-elect Donald Trump’s first term in office, our story revealing a recording of a 6-year-old Salvadoran girl wailing for her mother prompted an immediate end to the administration’s policy of deterring migrants by separating families at the Mexican border. This year, our work has prompted policy changes, the passage of new legislation, federal investigations and more.
We will be watching closely as the Trump administration takes shape and makes plans. We’re making plans, too: We have an open call for sources; we’re hiring more reporters for our Washington, D.C., office; we will be devoting a significant number of staffers to documenting our changing government.
And we need your help, too. As a nonprofit, independent newsroom, we are funded by donations and philanthropic support. This week, thousands of your fellow readers have made a donation to us, and I’m asking you today to join them with a donation. Give any amount right now and participate in supporting independent journalism that speaks truth to power.
Thanks,
Robin Sparkman
President, ProPublica
