Dear John,
In the last few days, we have heard from many people who share AFSC’s commitment to peace, justice, and human dignity. If you are feeling fear and uncertainty about the future, you are not alone. But we must not give in to fear. This moment is too urgent. Now is the time to mobilize.
We have heard directly from the communities with whom we closely work about their deep concerns for their rights and futures. Immigrant families are anxious in the face of calls for mass deportations. Palestinian youth grapple with the looming threats of further land annexation and the continued genocide in Gaza. Many who live in the U.S. are facing rising inequality and barriers to succeeding in the economy. Our long-standing relationships with these groups, and many others, put us in a unique position to respond swiftly and work in solidarity to protect their rights. We are committed to rising to this challenge, intensifying our efforts, ideas, and resources. We invite all those ready to join us in this vital work.
AFSC has been supporting movements for peace and justice since our founding in 1917. Every victory that has been won, every forward step taken, has happened because people who were oppressed and excluded came together to organize for what they were told was impossible. Today it is up to all of us to recommit ourselves to working for a future free from violence, inequality, and oppression—for everyone.
As a Quaker organization, we hold as sacred the belief that every human being has an inner light, is capable of transformation, and deserves dignity and freedom on a livable planet. As we chart a path forward in uncertain and difficult conditions, we will continue to advocate for an arms embargo on Israel, unfettered access for humanitarian aid in Gaza, and a permanent cease-fire. We will work tirelessly for welcoming, dignified, and just immigration policies. We will organize to end mass incarceration and stop police militarization and brutality. And we will keep partnering with communities in pursuit of economic justice, climate justice, and a sustainable future in which all people can thrive.
Now is a time to harness our collective power and resist despair. Please join us in resolving to advance the just, sustainable, and peaceful world we seek. And if it is within your means, please make a gift today to help fund the urgent work before us.
In peace,
