Our post-election work

[link removed]

John,

In the days following this election, many of us are reflecting on what the future holds for democracy in a country that feels increasingly divided.

The challenges to our democracy are numerous:
* A fractured and broken information environment;
* The overwhelming influence of money in politics;
* Attacks on the credibility of fundamental institutions, like the press, the courts, and the elections;
* A disintegration of democratic norms and standards;
* Congressional districts drawn to limit compromise.

The list goes on.

But with your support, we’re up for the long project of repairing and rebuilding.

For over 10 years, with your help, we have implemented winning strategies that persist beyond any single election or administration. You’ve empowered us to focus on common ground, forging alliances with those who share our values.

Your commitment has made this progress possible. Now, we must take on new challenges.

At Issue One, we’ve always believed that the defense of democracy is not a partisan issue — it’s a patriotic one. We believe in respectful dialogue, and fostering understanding across different perspectives to build stronger solutions and coalitions to support our democracy. That’s how we pursued all of our successful election-protection work this cycle — helping lead a coalition of more than 85 organizations — and how we’ll continue to move forward. The work of healing our democracy is and always will be nonpartisan.

So now we roll up our sleeves. Rest assured, we will continue our fight to:
* Reshape the information environment so that truth and shared understanding can thrive.
* Protect our election infrastructure and those who administer them.
* Expose the influence of money in politics and ensure transparency and accountability.
* Build a larger, more politically diverse, and well-coordinated coalition for democracy to drive broad change.

This work will be strategic, and it will be hard, but with voices from all sides of the aisle and supporters like you by our side, we’ll find solutions that resonate with every American. I have faith that we will prevail. As Churchill said during one of the darkest moments of World War II: “I am an optimist. It doesn’t seem much use being anything else.”

Today, I’m asking you to join us and double down at this critical moment. As corny as it sounds: Our democracy needs you. A stable, hopeful future for all Americans needs you.

Thank you for standing with us in this essential work. I’m deeply honored to work alongside you in this pivotal chapter of our nation’s history.

With gratitude and resolve,

Nick Penniman
