There are many, many victories to celebrate in state legislative elections across the country. While results are still being finalized and certified throughout the country, this note is to share an update and highlight a few prominent accomplishments.

Heading into Election Day, Republicans had majorities in 56 legislative chambers compared to the Democrats with majorities in 41 legislative chambers. The Alaska Senate and House were governed by bipartisan coalitions. The unicameral Nebraska legislature is non-partisan.

Republicans earned a majority in the Michigan House to expand to legislative majorities in 57 legislative chambers.
Republicans did not lose majority control in a single legislative chamber.
In Minnesota, House Republicans pulled into a 67-67 tie to break Democratic control of state government with Governor Tim Walz and a Democratic majority in the Senate.

Here is a state-by-state overview:

Alaska – While ballots continue to be counted, it is projected that the Senate and House will continue to be led by bipartisan coalitions.

Arizona – Republicans have secured Senate and House majorities and may possibly expand those majorities as remaining ballots to be counted favor the Republican candidates.

Arkansas – Senate Republicans kept a 29-6 majority. House Republicans kept an 82-18 majority.

California – Ballots continue to be counted with 12 Senate races uncalled and 51 House races uncalled.

Colorado – Senate Republicans kept 12 Districts while Democrats kept 23 Districts. House Republicans kept 19 Districts while Democrats kept 46 Districts.

Connecticut – Senate Republicans represent 9 Districts to 23 Democrats with 4 uncalled elections. House Republicans represent 45 Districts to 95 Democrats with 11 uncalled elections.

Delaware – Senate Republicans represent 6 Districts to 15 Democrats. House Republicans represent14 Districts to 26 Democrats with 1 uncalled election.

Florida – Senate Republicans kept a 28-12 majority. House Republicans currently represent 82 Districts to 35 Democrats with 3 uncalled elections.

Georgia – Senate Republicans kept a 33-23 majority. House Republicans currently represent 99 Districts to 78 Democrats with 3 uncalled elections.

Hawaii – Senate Republicans added 1 District to improve to 3 Republicans, 22 Democrats. House Republicans also added 1 District to improve to 7 Republicans to 42 Democrats with 2 uncalled elections.

Idaho – Senate Republicans expanded majority control to 29 Republicans to 6 Democrats. House Republicans expanded majority control to 61 Republicans to 9 Democrats.

Illinois – Senate Republicans added 1 District to improve to 20 Republicans, 38 Democrats, 1 uncalled election. House Republicans represent 36 Districts to 76 Democrats with 6 uncalled elections.

Indiana – Senate Republicans kept a 40-10 majority. House Republicans currently represent 69 Districts, to 28 Democrats with 2 uncalled elections.

Kansas – Senate Republicans expanded majority control to 31 Republicans to 9 Democrats. House Republicans expanded majority control to 88 Republicans to 37 Democrats.

Kentucky – Senate Republicans kept a 31-7 majority. House Republicans kept an 80-20 majority.

Maine – Senate and House Republicans earned impressive gains with projections reducing Democratic control to razor-thin majorities. Senate Republicans currently represent 14 Districts to 19 Democrats with 2 uncalled elections. House Republicans currently represent 54 Districts to 66 Democrats with 20 uncalled elections.

Massachusetts – Senate Republicans added 1 District to improve to 5 Republicans, 33 Democrats. House Republicans currently represent 24 Districts to 132 Democrats, 1 Independent with 3 uncalled elections.

Missouri – Senate Republicans kept a 24-10 majority. House Republicans currently represent 108 Districts to 50 Democrats with 5 uncalled elections.

Montana – Senate Republicans secured an 18-15 majority. House Republicans secured a 54-45 majority.

Nevada – Senate Republicans currently represent 7 Districts to 11 Democrats with 3 uncalled elections. Assembly Republicans added at least 1 District to improve to 15 Republicans to 18 Democrats with 9 uncalled elections.

New Hampshire – Senate Republicans kept an 18-15 majority. House Republicans gained an impressive 20 seats to expand majority control to 221-178.

New Mexico – Senate Republicans added at least 2 Districts for 16 Republicans to 25 Democrats with 1 uncalled election. House Republicans added at least 1 District with 26 Republicans to 42 Democrats with 2 uncalled elections.

New York – Senate Republicans held 21 Districts to 38 Democrats with 4 uncalled elections. Assembly Republicans currently represent 44 Districts to 94 Democrats with 12 uncalled elections.

North Carolina – Senate Republicans expanded majority control to 31-19. House Republicans secured a 71-49 majority.

North Dakota – Senate Republicans continue to represent 44 Districts to 4 Democrats with 1 uncalled election. House Republicans continue to represent 82 Districts to 11 Democrats with 1 uncalled election.

Ohio – Senate Republicans secured a 24-9 majority. House Republicans secured a 64-35 majority.

Oklahoma – Senate Republicans kept a 40-8 majority. House Republicans continue to represent 80 Districts to 20 Democrats with 1 uncalled election.

Oregon – Senate Republicans currently represent 10 Districts to 17 Democrats with 1 uncalled election. House Republicans currently represent 23 Districts to 29 Democrats with 8 uncalled elections.

Pennsylvania – Senate Republicans kept a 28-22 majority. House Republicans held the Democratic majority to one seat with 101 Republicans to 102 Democrats.

Rhode Island – Senate Republicans currently represent 4 Districts to 33 Democrats with 1 uncalled election. House Republicans secured 8 Districts to 64 Democrats, 1 Independent.

South Carolina – Senate Republicans gained at least 2 Districts for 33 Republicans to 12 Democrats with 2 uncalled elections. House Republicans secured 88 Districts to 36 Democrats.

South Dakota – Senate Republicans gained 1 District for 32 Republicans to 3 Democrats. House Republicans currently represent at least 63 Districts to 4 Democrats with 3 uncalled elections.

Tennessee – Senate Republicans kept a 27-6 majority. House Republicans kept a 75-24 majority.

Texas – Senate Republicans expanded majority control to 20 Republicans to 11 Democrats. House Republicans expanded majority control to 88 Republicans to 62 Democrats.

Utah – Senate and House Republicans kept veto-proof super-majorities in both chambers.

Vermont – Senate and House Republicans gained dozens of seats for impressive success. Senate Republicans added 6 seats to improve to 13 Republicans, 16 Democrats and 1 Progressive. House Republicans added 18 seats to improve to 55 Republicans, 88 Democrats and 7 Progressives or Independents.

Washington – Senate Republicans currently represent 16 Districts to 28 Democrats with 6 uncalled elections. House Republicans currently represent 34 Districts to 55 Democrats with 9 uncalled elections.

West Virginia – Senate Republicans expanded majority control to 32 Republicans, 2 Democrats. House Republicans expanded majority control to 91 Republicans, 9 Democrats.

Wisconsin – Senate Republicans secured an 18-15 majority. Assembly Republicans secured a 54-45 majority.

Wyoming – Senate Republicans kept a 29-2 majority. House Republicans secured a 56-6 majority.
