John,
Dream.Org was built for this moment.
The results are now clear: Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States, and Republicans will hold control of the Senate and quite possibly the House of Representatives as well. I wish more than anything that we weren’t in this moment. But that’s not the end of the story.
A lot of us are struggling right now — wondering what this means for the future, for our communities, our climate, and our democracy. It is ok to take time to breathe, to worry, and to wonder what tomorrow will bring.
But we must not — ever — give up hope for progress. Dream.Org is built for this. We have a proven track record of working with unlikely allies and building common ground, while centering directly impacted communities.
In 2016, no one thought bipartisan federal criminal justice reform was a few years away — but we got it done. In just the last year, we launched the Dream Entrepreneurs Network, supporting 35 diverse founders in climate and justice tech, and passed criminal justice reform legislation in red states with GOP legislatures. That work will continue, even with Trump in the White House.
We still believe in a future without prisons, pollution, poverty, and polarization, and are ready to work harder than ever:
- Building a prison-to-power pipeline, helping people personally impacted by the justice system become the ones with the power to change it, continuing our successful bipartisan state legislative work.
- Expanding our “Public Health is Public Safety” campaign, which brings holistic solutions to the fentanyl crisis, to 7 states after our success in deep-red Kentucky.
- Unearthing innovative solutions by supporting underrepresented entrepreneurs in climate and justice tech
- Protecting federal climate programs in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that will create new jobs, boost the economy and foster energy independence in our communities.
Progress has never been an easy journey. Just like those who came before us, we will continue to fight for the American dream to be accessible for all Americans. After a bitter election season, let’s take a deep breath, resettle — and then get to organizing. Progress is still possible, but we can’t do it without you. We need you and look forward to working together in the months and years ahead.
