*Data Snapshot Shows Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Delinquency Cases*
Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Processing Delinquency Cases, 2005-2020 [ [link removed] ]
OJJDP has updated its Statistical Briefing Book [ [link removed] ] with a new Data Snapshot [ [link removed] ] on racial and ethnic disparities in the processing of delinquency cases from 2005 to 2022.
According to the snapshot, referral rates for delinquency cases involving Black youth were more than twice the rates for all other groups since 2005. The data show that, except for 2022, delinquency cases involving white youth were most likely to be diverted. The data also show that delinquency cases involving Black, Hispanic, and American Indian youth were most likely to result in out-of-home placement since 2007.
Developed for OJJDP by the National Center for Juvenile Justice [ [link removed] ], the research division of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges [ [link removed] ], the Statistical Briefing Book offers easy online access to statistics on a variety of juvenile justice topics.
