Dear Friend,
Tuesday night was difficult. Like you, I’m still processing and reflecting on the election results and what they mean for our country and our community.
For all of us, it’s crucial that we remain committed to protecting our democracy, upholding the rule of law, and promoting justice for all. This mission guides us daily at the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, and it’s more important than ever.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg taught me an important lesson that resonates profoundly with our current moment: “Fight for the things you believe in and do it in a way that people will join you.” On Tuesday night, Colorado honored her legacy by amending–with overwhelming support—our state constitution to protect access to abortion care and marriage equality. That’s a big deal.
Tuesday night also brought what looks like another close victory for Dr. Yadira Caraveo in Colorado’s 8th Congressional District. A critical factor in this hard-fought win was the Horizon Project, [[link removed]] an initiative I led on behalf of the Colorado Democratic Party. By organizing thousands of in-person conversations, we listened to Coloradans, inspired them to vote, and broke through the noise of a massive negative ad campaign against Congresswoman Caraveo. In such a closely contested election, this personal engagement made a meaningful difference, not just to the voters, but to the volunteers in this canvassing effort.
My faith teaches an important lesson that I am reflecting on this week: We don’t have to complete the work of repairing our world, but we are not free to desist from doing our part. Thanks for being an engaged citizen and doing your part in this critical work. Together, we can continue to make a positive impact here in Colorado and in our nation.
