Members Tabling 2019

Summer Is in Full Swing for Population Connection Members!

Population Connection's dedicated members haven't let the
heat of summer diminish their commitment to raising local awareness of
global population issues! World Population Day (7/11) and Earth
Overshoot Day (7/29) provided opportunities for hosting film
screenings and tabling around the country.

An impressive 171 members participated in film screenings of Mother:
Caring for 7 Billion, and dozens more tabled at 16 events in 10 states
across the U.S. They gathered more than 400 signatures on our petition
to Congress to pass the Global HER Act-which would repeal
Trump's cruel Global Gag Rule and empower people worldwide to
gain access to vital reproductive health care services.

Opportunities to volunteer in your community don't end with
shorter days and cooler temperatures-reach out to Membership
Relations Coordinators Alyssa and Rose at [email protected] to
learn how you can get more involved with Population Connection all
year round!

PopEd Leadership Institute 2019

Reaching the Next Generation at PopEd's Leadership Institute

Every year, Population Education hosts two Leadership Institutes.
These training events provide new teacher trainers with the skills and
knowledge they need to facilitate training workshops all around the
country on behalf of PopEd. This year's Summer Institute took
place at the beautiful Wingspread conference center in Racine, WI. The
two-day event featured over 20 hands-on activities designed to build
participants' understanding of PopEd's pedagogical
approach and workshop model. Attendees also practiced facilitating
PopEd lessons and creating engaging workshop agendas, leaving them
fully prepared to share our materials with their fellow professional
educators.

Summer Interns Make the Population Connection

Last week, we bid farewell to the last of our five 2019 Duke
University Stanback Interns. Catherine Choi, Ashley Hare, Joyce Huang,
Ivy Jiang, and Ameya Sanyal spent 11 weeks in our Washington, DC,
office assisting staff with key program projects. During their time
with us, these bright and ambitious young women attended rallies and
meetings on Capitol Hill, blogged for our websites, launched our
Population Connection Instagram account, put together PopEd workshop
packets, helped prepare data for the annual Congressional Report Card,
and so much more! Their impact on our work this summer was invaluable,
and we're grateful to their efforts and the generosity of the
Duke University Stanback Internship program for supplying us with
wonderful interns every year!
