Friend,
Hunger Free America is a non-partisan organization that doesn’t take sides in political campaigns. That being said, I know that many of you are despondent, outraged, bewildered, and/or terrified by the election results. I certainly am.
But know this: our collective direct service and advocacy work has never been more important. It’s especially when times are tough that the people we represent need our help most. We will redouble our efforts to aid and empower the most vulnerable people in our city and nation, regardless of their ethnicity, nation of origin, race, gender, physical abilities, or sexual identity or orientation.
I am more determined than ever to work hard towards the long-term goal of an America without hunger, and I hope you are too. I still believe it’s possible – and necessary – to ensure that all Americans can afford sufficient, adequate, nutritious food.
We must always learn from history. The bad news, as we’ve seen this week, is that there are no permanent social and economic victories, and gains can always be rolled back. The good news is that there are no permanent defeats, and social movements can indeed fight back and win.
Building a better, more just America won’t be quick, nor will it be easy. But we can - and will - get there together.
In solidarity,
