Trump Has a Rare Opportunity

Niall Ferguson: Trump has destroyed the Obama coalition, which depended on the mobilization of minorities by the Democrats. According to exit polls, he won 54 percent of Latino men. After all the agonizing about comedian Tony Hinchcliffe calling Puerto Rico “garbage” at a Trump rally, there was a massive shift in the Florida Puerto Rican vote—to Trump. True, Harris won the demographic 52 percent to 43 percent, but Biden won the same group 69 percent to 31 percent four years ago. That’s a 17-point swing. Trump also seems to have won over a significant number of black men. According to the NBC News exit poll, Trump won 20 percent  of the black vote in Wisconsin, compared with 8 percent in 2020. To give just one example from another swing state, Trump even won Anson County, North Carolina, which is 40 percent black, making him just the second Republican to win this county since the 1870s—in other words, since Reconstruction. Finally, Trump has won over a significant chunk of younger Americans, most probably young men, who have swung right on a scale woefully underestimated by Democratic strategists. What are the implications of this historic realignment? The obvious point is that the GOP sweep of the White House, the Senate, and likely the House gives the Republicans a rare opportunity. Will they make better use of it than they did in 2017–18? My bet is yes (Free Press). Hugh Hewitt: For the youngs on my side of the political debate: Enjoy President-elect Trump’s big win and the shift of the Senate but don’t expect it to last or to recur. Tuesday was a rare day and such days come along infrequently. They have to be enjoyed and then harnessed for the good of the republic. President-elect Trump has a rare chance to write more than electoral history, to reach for much, much more (X).

Arizona Passes Measure Allowing Illegal Immigrants to Get Arrested, Deported
National Review: An overwhelming number of Arizona voters backed a GOP ballot measure, which authorizes local law enforcement and state judges to respectively arrest and deport illegal immigrants who cross the southern border outside official ports of entry. With 59 percent of the votes counted, the Associated Press estimated nearly 63 percent of Arizonans voted in favor of Proposition 314 to make illegal immigration a state crime. The proposition also makes it illegal for people to provide false information when applying for benefits or employment, and for those who refuse to comply with authorities when ordered to leave the U.S. Moreover, it strengthens penalties for criminals who sell fentanyl which causes the death of the consumer (National Review). Fox News: As illegal border crossings exploded under the Biden administration, President-elect Trump made the issue one of his top focuses on the 2024 campaign trail. He has also pledged to terminate “every open borders policy of the Biden administration.” A Trump administration would also likely seek to restore the 2019 Remain-in-Mexico policy and bring back down the number of refugee admissions. On Monday, he announced an additional policy, promising to slap a 25% tariff on incoming goods from Mexico (Fox News).

Kamala Harris Concedes Election to Donald Trump
Townhall: The observations from CNN Abby Phillip were spot-on: the joy and hope have been sucked out of the room. She also said that despite the music in the background, the mood at Howard University, where Harris delivered the ‘I lost’ speech, was somber… She said the outcome was not what we wanted or voted for, but the light of America’s promise will always burn bright, adding how she was still full of gratitude and love for our country (Townhall). George: Kamala Harris just did something Hillary Clinton NEVER DID, “We must accept the results of this election. Earlier today, I spoke to President-Elect Trump to congratulate him” (X). Townhall: HARRIS: “While I concede this election, I do not conceded the fight that fueled this campaign” (X).

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Among First World Leader to Congratulate Donald Trump on Victory
WFIN: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “was among the first” Wednesday to call President-elect Donald Trump, the world leader’s office says. “The conversation was warm and cordial. The Prime Minister congratulated Trump on his victory, and the two agreed to work together for Israel’s security,” read a statement from the Israel Prime Minister’s Office. “The two also discussed the Iranian threat,” it added. The statement came hours after the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas said Trump’s incoming administration in January must “work seriously to stop the war” in the Gaza Strip (WFIN). CBS: Tension between Washington and Tel Aviv has risen sharply over the last year, with President Biden and others criticising Israel’s tactics in its multi-front war with Iranian-backed groups in the Middle East. “Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America,” Netanyahu said. “This is a huge victory” (CBS)!

RFK Promises to Remove Entire Departments Within the FDA
Townhall: In an interview this week, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that there are departments at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that “have to go.” In “some” categories, Kennedy said, there are top officials at the agency that need to be dismissed for not protecting American kids. This boils down to the chemicals and other ingredients that are allowed in food targeted at children, he explained (Townhall). Commentator Gunther Eagleman: RFK Jr. just vowed to remove entire departments of the FDA! This is what I’m talking about (X)!

DOJ Drops Cases Against Donald Trump
Jack Smith is gone. Just the News: Justice Department officials are moving to “wind down” the two federal criminal cases against President-elect Donald Trump to comply with agency policy against prosecuting a sitting president. NBC News reported exclusively that the DOJ sees no avenue to hold trials soon for the two cases brought by special counsel Jack Smith, one for alleged efforts by to overturn the 2020 election and another for allegedly mishandling classified documents. In both cases, Trump’s legal team has many opportunities to file appeals which would further delay any trials and could end up in the hands of the Supreme Court (Just the News). End Wokeness: Biden-Harris DOJ drops their cases against Donald Trump (X).

Harris Campaign Begins the Blame Game
Fox News: President-elect Trump’s historic victory over Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday has surrogates of the Democratic candidate pointing fingers and laying blame for the defeat — even before Harris officially concedes. Harris-Walz surrogate Lindy Li spoke to Fox News senior White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich at Howard University, Harris’ alma mater, in Washington, D.C., saying that the Harris team wasn’t “expecting a blowout at all.” “The blame game has started,” said Li, a member of Harris’ National Finance Committee and Pennsylvania commissioner. Li said that Harris’ pick for vice president, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, may not have been the right choice to carry the “blue wall” states against the Trump-Vance ticket (Fox News). Townhall: Harris surrogate admits major mistakes made by campaign including choosing Walz as her running mate and saying she wouldn’t do anything differently than Biden while on ‘The View’ (X).

Joy Reid Claims Kamala Harris Had A "Historic, Flawlessly Run Campaign”
If they do not understand why they lost, they will continue losing. Daily Wire: MSNBC host Joy Reid insisted that Kamala Harris ran a great campaign. She made the statement while covering election results as it became clear that Republican nominee Donald Trump was taking a solid lead. By Wednesday, Trump had beaten Harris in most swing states and also clinched the lead in the popular vote. Reid said, “I think it’s important to say, anyone who has experienced or been in the United States for any period of time and experienced this country’s history and knows it, cannot have believed it would be easy to elect a woman president, let alone a woman of color. Let’s just be clear. And nothing that was true yesterday about how flawlessly this campaign was run, is not true now” (Daily Wire). RCP Video: MSNBC’s Joy Reid: This Was A “Historic, Flawlessly Run Campaign,” Kamala Harris “Had Every Prominent Celebrity Voice.” “Queen Latifah never endorses anyone. She came out and endorsed her. She had every prominent celebrity voice. She had the Taylor Swift — the Swifties. You could not have run a better campaign” (X).

Stocks Rally in Wake of Donald Trump Victory
CNBC: Stocks rallied sharply on Wednesday, with major benchmarks hitting record highs, as Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election. The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1,425 points to a record high, or around 3.4%. The last time the blue-chip Dow jumped more than 1,000 points in a single day was in November 2022. The S&P 500 also hit an all-time high, popping 2.4%. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 2.8% to a record of its own (CNBC). Wall Street Journal: Surging yields intensified a climb in the U.S. dollar, which was also boosted by the prospect of rising tariffs. Economists say tariffs can lift the U.S. currency by hurting the economies of foreign countries and discouraging Americans from spending on imported goods (Wall Street Journal).
