A Time to Mourn...Then Time to Continue the Fight!

Down But Not Out;
Our Fight Continues!

Like all of you, we feel shattered and our hearts are broken over Tuesday's results. But we also feel pride -- pride in you, our volunteers, and gratitude for all we were able to accomplish over the last year. Your enthusiasm and dedication left us in awe!

We want to celebrate all of you who showed up to fight, and as part of this thanks, we are planning a special activist recognition event, from 5-7 pm on Friday, November 22. Details will be published soon.

In the meantime, we take heart in these excerpts from Steve Schmidt's column in today's The Warning.  You can read the entire column here:  https://steveschmidt.substack.com/p/worse-days-are-ahead-so-are-better

"A battle has been lost in a great cause that has broken many hearts, deeply disillusioned others, and shattered the perception of America all over the world.

"There are 725 days until the midterm elections and MAGA’s first referendum. Every second will be needed to excavate the ruins, level the ground, pour a foundation and start building again...

"We have lost an election, not the country. The question about who we are as a country will never be settled in these United States because America is always in a state of becoming. For much of my life, I liked what America was and was becoming...

"Let us remember to make “good trouble” as we oppose the coming assault on our values, laws, institutions, fellow citizens, and the rule of law. For awhile, Trump will roll  forward, propelled by zeal, arrogance and victory, but then the road will get muddy and his wheels will get stuck.

"Donald Trump is every bit as dangerous as I have warned. What I have warned about will largely happen, and it will be terrible, but it need not be permanent.

"Remember that.

"Fight on.

"Hang tough.

"Worse days are ahead. So are better ones.

"No matter what, do not be afraid of MAGA or Trump.

"Americans don’t tremble when they see a dime-store Mussolini win an election. They take a look in the mirror and get on with it."

The Resistance begins now! 🥊

State of Our Races

We know everyone is anxious about the races of Anna Thomas and Woodson Bradley.  As you no doubt know by now, unfortunately, Anna lost her race.

The status of Woodson's race has not yet been resolved, but here is what we know right now:

  • Woodson is up by 27 votes.
  • There are roughly 4,100 absentee ballots outstanding in Mecklenburg County.
    • We don't know how many are in SD42.
    • These are being counted today.
  • There are roughly 4,600 provisional ballots in Mecklenburg County.
    • We don't know how many are in SD42.
    • These will be processed on Monday (11/11) starting at 11AM and counting likely will not be completed until 4PM.
  • There is no automatic recount in NC. A candidate can call for a recount if the difference is 1% or less. We're currently at .02%.
    • We fully expect McGinn to call for a recount. The timeline for that is:
      • 11/6 - Unofficial results announced.
      • 11/15 at 11AM - County Board Canvass.
      • 11/18 by 5PM - Deadline to request a recount.
      • After a recount is requested, the county board is required to wait at least 48 hours' notice before starting the recount.

You Can Still Make a Difference!

There are still ways you can help with THIS election:

Become a Post-Election Canvass Monitor!

The ACLU is seeking volunteers to help with the important work that takes place after the election, from November 8-12during the “official canvass", which is the process by which each County Boards of Elections (BOE) checks the results from each voting precinct for accuracy. The BOE then compiles all of the ballots from each voting method to compute the results for each race on the ballot, which must be certified by the state. This work is apolitical, but increasing threats to election integrity require additional monitoring to ensure a free and fair election for all PA Voters.
