John,

Tuesday’s results were beyond disappointing. It’s disheartening to know a majority of our nation chose to reelect an amoral con man whose inaction during the COVID-19 pandemic cost the lives of over a million Americans. It’s unfathomable that Trump’s decades of racist and sexist remarks – and felony convictions! – did not stop him from winning the White House again.

Kamala Harris deserved this win. She ran a near-perfect campaign and has decades of experience advocating for policies that improve lives for all Americans, not just those with lots of money. Also, her class, her wish to unite us all, was what America needed at this moment. I am joining tens of millions of Americans in mourning what we’ve lost by not electing her.

I am, however, trying to remain hopeful via the victories we did have. Lisa Blunt Rochester and Angela Alsobrooks will make history as the fourth and fifth Black women to ever serve in the Senate – and it will be the first time America has two Black women in the Senate at the same time. Andy Kim’s win in New Jersey means we’ll have the first Korean-American Senator. And Delaware’s Sarah McBride is going to be America’s first openly transgender Congressperson.

Through this dark time, it’s okay to mourn and grieve – but let’s also remember the good that is worth fighting for. We must unite more than ever before to defend LGBTQ+ and reproductive rights, protect our climate, and prevent Trump from implementing his dangerous Project 2025 agenda.

I hope you’re still with me in this fight, John. If you are, will you please chip in just $5 to Blue Amp Action today so we can begin the work IMMEDIATELY to protect our democracy from the MAGA threat?

Thank you,

Cliff

About Blue Amp Action:

We cannot sugarcoat the current situation. Right-wing authoritarianism, defeated by a worldwide coalition during WWII, was only in hibernation. Over the past decade it has infected democratic societies--including ours. It is as simple as it is terrifying: What we do now will define the future of our country and world.

We at Blue Amp Action are dedicated to liberal, open societies, where reason and science are applied to solve our problems; where civil rights--including voting rights!--are protected for all. We fight for these values every day. Speaking up on our platforms, raising the voices and the political prospects of liberal pols and pundits.

And savvy grassroots activists like you know, just like we do, that we can’t stop watching the people we help elect: after the elections, we have to keep organizing support for the policies we like and pushing back against the ones we don’t.

When the public tunes out between elections and the only people our elected officials hear from are the paid lobbyists of wealthy corporations, our government stops being accountable to the needs of ordinary families.

Democracy never sleeps, and neither can we.

So we ask that you support our work, so we can continue to engage in this fight every moment of every day. So our kids grow up in democracy, not dystopia.

Thank you for your support for all we do! Please follow Cliff Schecter on Twitter @cliffschecter, or subscribe to The Takedown with Cliff Schecter on YouTube, to keep up to date with this battle for the heart and soul of our country.
