Dear Friend,

The elections are an important part of exercising our rights; and at the same time, the real work of democracy happens now. In recent months and years, we have witnessed the forces of racist xenophobia, misogyny, genocide, and authoritarianism play out in ways that fundamentally erode our values of justice and shared humanity. As we look to the future, one thing is clear: our collective work towards liberation must continue and strengthen.

Supporting social movements and organizing with peers in philanthropy are paramount to fighting back against authoritarianism in the US and worldwide.

In these uncertain times, we are reminded by our movement partners that struggles for justice are neither linear nor quick – they require steadfast effort over generations, long outlasting any particular government or regime. And this steadfastness demonstrated by our partners takes long-term strategy, vision, and commitment. For those of us who have been working for change from within the US, we recognize the similarities of the current political context with what many communities around the world have been facing. We must continue to organize, make connections through an internationalist perspective, and contribute to building a global movement.

And we know that more so now than ever, we must lean on each other and practice collective care and protection. Our movement partners are ready to support and build with us, while  advancing transformative visions in their own communities and beyond.

Amidst ongoing genocide, rampant violence, and rising authoritarianism, building strength in community is a necessity, and we are so grateful for you to be part of our community at Grassroots International. Let us continue to build together toward the new world that is so sorely needed, and that we know is possible.

With solidarity and love,
