We’re angry—and I’m sure you are, too. And honestly, our team needed to take a day to rest.
Over the past year, we’ve worked to register countless trans people and allies to vote, recruited for multiple phone and text banks to GOTV, and endorsed and supported trans candidates in key races in Minnesota, Florida and Kentucky. A dozen of whom won!
This election season has been brutal. It’s not the first-time trans people were targeted in an election, yet we know this cycle was different. Spending more than $65M on anti-trans ads featuring our video content, Trump targeted trans people since his campaign launch. He targeted our existence. He targeted our rights.
He promised he would continue to target trans people if he won—and we know he will keep his promise. But we promise to fight back. We cannot promise we will win every fight, but we promise to fight them all.
We’ve been here before. A4TE has been the leading organization fighting for trans people in Washington D.C. since 2003. During the G.W. Bush Administration, A4TE found openings for key improvements and blocked harmful policies. A4TE worked with the Obama Administration to improve more than 150 policies. During the last Trump Administration, A4TE developed and executed a strategy to stop and slow anti-trans policies while tracking losses to fix later. We sued HHS to protect trans people against discrimination, vocally opposed Executive Order 13950 and Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation. We’ve worked closely with the Biden Administration to implement solutions, improving hundreds of policies and still counting.
Because we’ve been here before, we’ve been preparing. That’s why our previous organizations merged to form A4TE – to ensure trans people and our families have a strong and powerful national trans organization ready for these moments. We’ve been preparing for this outcome for a long time, a pivotal moment leading up to now came when the whole country watched anti-trans political ads try to use our 2019 interview with Harris to demonize fighting for the rights of trans people. We’ve been preparing to protect our wins.
We are clear-eyed about what lies ahead. We cannot promise we will win every fight, but we promise to fight them all. Every single one. Thank you for supporting a trans-led and trans-focused organization. We cannot do this work without you.
