Ghost guns are "do-it-yourself" firearms that are assembled from kits easily purchased online, with no background check required.

They're a growing threat to our safety for three big reasons:

1. Untraceable: these guns don't have a serial number or other markings.
2. Largely Unregulated: under outdated federal laws they are not considered weapons because they are not assembled yet, even though you can build a fully functioning firearm with a ghost gun kit.
3. Criminal Use: criminals are flocking to these guns because they are harder to track and easier to obtain--no background check required.

Our gun laws have not kept up with new technology, and we need to act before ghost guns cause even more harm. So today, we're asking you to take an important step:

Traditional firearms are manufactured by licensed companies and sold by licensed dealers. A ghost gun is a firearm made from parts by an unlicensed individual at home.

It's far too easy for these guns to fall into the hands of criminals who aren't allowed to buy one in the first place.
