BREAKING GROUND AT MARCY PARK | As the former representative of University City, I’m proud to be a part of the collaborative efforts between former Councilmembers Scott Peters and Barbara Bry and current Councilmember Kent Lee, and, most importantly, the University City community that helped to bring their vision of Marcy Park to life. Following Wednesday’s ceremonial groundbreaking, this long-awaited project will provide a vibrant space for neighbors, families, and friends to enjoy. The park renovations include two new play areas for children; new shade structures; accessible walkways and play equipment; new lighting to enhance safety; and improved landscaping. The project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2026. | The City launched a 'Safe Streets for All' virtual open house to gather community feedback on making streets safer for everyone—cyclists, drivers, and pedestrians. Responsible sharing of our roads and sidewalks is key to reaching our #VisionZero and sustainability goals. | San Diego’s parks are cherished spaces that promote community well-being, nature escapes, gathering areas, and recreational opportunities—we must take care of them. Thank you, San Diego Parks Foundation, for the vital work you do to care for our parks and recreation centers. And thank you CEO Leona Sublett for inviting me to speak at your “A Walk in the Park” event to emphasize the role organizations and generous donors and volunteers play in preserving our city parks, keeping them accessible, and ensuring they remain places of joy and connection for all San Diegans. Coming soon: Improvements at La Jolla’s Scripps Park. | Thank you to everyone who joined me and my team at Java with LaCava today. Your insights and feedback are invaluable as we work together to improve our neighborhoods. A big thanks to Dot Café and owner Sasha for hosting us. Hope to see you at the next one! | Council President Pro Tem Joe LaCava Follow me on social media to stay up to date. | |
