Dear friend,
I hope you’re taking care during this roller coaster of a week. As the dust begins to settle and we make sense of what’s to come, it’s important to remember we find our strength, safety, and resiliency in each other.
But let’s make one thing clear: We are not backing down.
We will not shrink away from this moment. Trump may villainize us, but he won’t defeat us.
We will fight back against Trump’s fascist government and work to free all of our community members from the grips of the mass incarceration, surveillance, and deportation systems. We’ve experienced Trump’s monstrous actions before. We don’t know exactly what the future holds, but here’s what I do know:
We fight because we can, and we fight for our communities.
We have the backs of detained leaders advocating for freedom.
And, if we are to show our power, this moment requires us to engage in collective action, mutual aid, and solidarity among our communities. The sum of our collective resilience, sheer will, and determination is more powerful than acting alone.
The months ahead will not be easy. In each of our own lives and communities, we must commit to protect our people. And we must also go on the offense to stamp out the spread and normalization of the type of racist misinformation that helped sweep Trump back to power.
Our mission remains the same: We’re building a world without prisons or cages of any kind. This is the hard work of confronting white supremacy and the entrenched systems that sustain it
Please consider chipping in whatever you can to help us do this work and prepare for what’s coming. We’re going to need it — and we’re extending our matching campaign for a limited time, which means your donation will be doubled, thanks to a generous donor!
