Hi folks, this is Ghazala Hashmi, a Democratic candidate for Virginia Lt. Governor in 2025, and a current VA State Senator.
In 2019, I ran for office because Donald Trump decided, as a matter of policy, to target vulnerable communities, scapegoat and demonize individuals on the basis of race and religion, and sow division within this country. I ran to send a signal to the rest of the country that, in Virginia, we stand up for the good of all.
It has been my tremendous honor to serve in the Virginia Senate now for five sessions. I have developed and passed critical, progressive legislation such as The Environmental Justice Act, the creation of the Virginia Office of Education Economics, the Office of New Americans, interstate compacts for critical healthcare professions, vital support for public education, and much more. These bills have improved the lives of countless Virginians.
I know what is possible when we do not lose hope. When friends and neighbors speak out for sanity, sensibility, and for each other, we create ripple effects that improve lives and the well-being of all. We have faced these challenges before, and we will do it again. I believe in our country and its essential dedication to its core, democratic values.
I am not giving up on the promise of our country or commonwealth. That’s why I’m running to represent you as your next Lt. Governor.
