First, I have to start with thank you. If you’re reading this – you have been involved. You care about our state, our country, and our communities and strive to make things better for all of us. Like me, you believe we all do better when we all do better. Thank you for continually stepping up.

Elections like this one offer us an important reminder that each of us has the power to decide our country’s future – we use our voice and vote. The national election was divisive and challenging, and I know many people are sad, angry, and even fearful about what’s ahead. In the coming days and weeks, there will be innumerable articles and analyses on the outcome. Regardless of who our next president will be, we must address the needs of our communities. Now, more than ever, we are called upon as citizens and as humans to support one another and model our values of inclusivity and kindness.

In Maryland, we organized, knocked, called, and shattered more barriers, continuing what we started in 2022. We elected a phenomenal leader to be our next U.S. Senator, Angela Alsobrooks. We have also elected two extraordinary state leaders who represent a new generation of leadership for Maryland to the U.S. House. When all the votes are counted, I believe we will keep the 6th Congressional District in Democratic hands, as well. As a result, Maryland will send women back to Washington for the first time in almost a decade! And we successfully passed the Reproductive Freedom Referendum, safeguarding reproductive rights, including IVF, birth control, and abortion, in our state constitution for generations to come.

Vice President Harris was handed a tough assignment – and she stepped up with grace, intelligence, and determination to energize many of us to fight for a new way forward. She and Governor Walz worked tirelessly, creating an incredible coalition, and I was proud to support them. As I knocked on doors in Maryland and Pennsylvania, I appreciated my conversations with people about the challenges they faced and the importance of this election.

As we move forward, I – along with our Governor, Attorney General, and General Assembly – will focus on supporting Maryland families, small businesses, and communities during what may be tumultuous years ahead. But it’s not just up to us; it’s up to every person in this state. We each have a role and responsibility in making this representative democracy keep working. It’s a legacy we inherited, and I know we will all work to strengthen it before passing it on.

Get some rest, hug your loved ones, greet your neighbors, and let’s keep working to build a better Maryland – and a better America – for everyone.

My very best,

Brooke
