Friend,
It will come as no secret that this election did not go the way I had hoped. But this is a democracy, and even when things don’t go our way we need to respect the process and the outcome. We must take any disappointment or despair, and channel it. We must roll up our sleeves and get back to work. The fight to protect our nation from extremism is in our hands. We will win that battle in Virginia in 2025.
And while our country’s political landscape remains complicated, I’m hopeful that results at the local level will continue to yield progress.
As my time as Richmond’s Mayor comes to an end, I’m excited to be passing the baton to my friend and colleague, Dr. Danny Avula. Danny and I worked hand-in-hand during the pandemic to protect our residents, slow the spread of disease, and combat misinformation. I am confident he will continue the important work and build upon the immense progress we have made in the last eight years! I hope you will join me in supporting him as he becomes Mayor of Richmond on January 1st.
