Hey there,
Do you remember when Mitch McConnell refused to even consider Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court?
McConnell claimed that since it was an election year, the American people should decide instead. He insisted the decision had nothing to do with politics -- that it was "about a principle, not a person."
Turns out, that was a lie.
Now that Obama is long gone from the White House, and with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently hospitalized, Republicans are eagerly anticipating another Supreme Court vacancy in an election year. When asked what he would do with a vacancy now -- months closer to the election than the 2016 vacancy -- CNN reports that McConnell "took a long sip of what appeared to be iced tea before announcing with a smile, 'Oh, we'd fill it.'"
This is what happens when the GOP controls the Senate. But with The Cook Political Report giving 50-50 odds of Democrats retaking the chamber this year, we need to know where engaged voters stand:
Do you approve of Mitch McConnell's hypocrisy?
