Message from your local Bestwood ward Councillors

We hope that in such worrying times, our message reaches you safe and well.

We know ‘lockdown’ is incredibly difficult. However, it has been heartening to see our community come together, refusing to allow anyone to struggle alone.

Whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines, we’re proud to be working with Bestop Kitchen, delivering home cooked meals and food parcels to those in need.

It has been heartwarming to see the appreciation from residents. They are not only appreciative of the food, but also the opportunity to chat. During this pandemic many people have struggled with isolation and loneliness.

We will also be delivering treat bags to children across the ward. We know this can be a scary time for children in particular. As well as regularly checking in with our most vulnerable residents.

We’re incredibly proud of the Bestwood and Top Valley community for all for the kindness you have shown. You’ve proven that community-spirit is still alive and well!

We want to thank all NHS and key workers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to keep us safe.

We’d also like to thank the volunteers at Bestop Kitchen, the Pythian Club, Bulwell Toy Library, Bestwood Directions, Hoops Knowledge Academy, The Vine Community Centre and Disability Direct. You have all been incredible in supporting those in need. We’ve been honoured to work alongside you, and we’re truly grateful for all of the incredible work you’ve been doing.

Together we will get through this, and our community will be stronger than ever!

Cllr Jay Hayes, Cllr Georgia Power and Cllr Audra Wynter

This video shows the type of support we’ve been providing so far with amazing partners in Bestwood.

Here's Dale, she is our Neighbourhood Development Officer for Bestwood and shares with you how the Council, community groups, volunteers and partners have all come together and provided support for those in need.

Please watch this video - Dale is brill!

Dale Griffin, Neighbourhood Development Officer for Bestwood

Before COVID-19, Dale already knew Bestwood has fantastic community and faith groups in the ward. However, she is absolutely blown away of how many people are working together in Bestwood. Thank you!!

How you can get help!

A range of support is available for people in Nottingham – from asking good neighbours to pick up some essentials, all the way through to NHS Shielding Measures and Adult Social Care support.

If you are self-isolating, and have no other means of support, you can call the Council. We can deliver a food parcel to your door for a small charge – parcels are free for extremely vulnerable people in NHS Shielding Measures. Simply call the Council’s Customer Hub on 0115 915 5555. This line is open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday or you can complete the online form at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/coronavirus

Want to volunteer? If you would like to help your community by delivering food packages or providing phone support, please become a volunteer with Nottingham Community and Voluntary Service www.nottinghamcvs.co.uk/volunteering/want-to-volunteer

Want more than a food parcel? Our Meals at Home service provides single person and family food options as well as vegan and vegetarian meals – everything can be delivered frozen ready for you to cook at home or hot meals can be delivered too. If you have an elderly or vulnerable relative, ordering a regular delivery can help you to feel better, knowing a hot meal has been delivered to your loved one by our friendly team. Simply call 0115 876 1847 or visit www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/mealsathome
