Friend,
If you’re grieving this week, we are with you.
Tuesday’s election results left us heartbroken, and we’re cycling through the anger and sadness of what another Trump administration means for our communities.
There’s no way around it: This is a hard moment for our movements.
But building a winning movement is not a sprint – it’s a long-term commitment, Friend. We have weathered right-wing, authoritarian administrations before and this moment demands that we keep steady and organize.
We’re asking that you join us for the fight ahead in 2 ways right now:
We want to take stock of where we are and the road ahead for our communities. Here’s what we know right now:
- Donald Trump’s election will mean another 4 years of constant attacks on our homes, climate, civil liberties, and the right to a dignified life.
-
Democrats lost their majority in the Senate, and we won’t know which party will control the House for a number of days.
- Project 2025 – the incoming Trump administration’s blueprint for radically restructuring the federal government – will protect corporate monopolies and the richest Americans while neglecting the needs of everyday working-class people.
Our current political reality is dire, but we are not powerless. We saw major wins in New York state on Tuesday. We defeated congressional MAGA incumbents on Long Island and upstate, winning back 3 House seats. New York voters also passed Prop 1, an amendment to the state constitution that protects our bodies, rights, and lives.
With a Democrat-controlled state Assembly and Senate, New York is primed to be a leader on climate, housing, immigration, and jobs – but we must organize to win the future our communities deserve.
We will fight to make sure New York welcomes immigrants.
We will fight for safe, affordable housing for all regardless of what zip code we live in or how much money we make.
We will fight for clean air, clean water, and a livable climate for every New Yorker.
We’re prepared to push our political leaders to align with poor and working-class people’s demands for a livable future and defeat a far-right, corporate agenda. We are ready to make the wealthiest pay what they owe to fund life-affirming services for our communities.
It will take energy, commitment, and solidarity. But above all, it will take hope.
MAGA extremists and corporate politicians are playing a long game of division and fear, and their success depends on hopelessness. When we organize together, we’re building the vision we see for our collective future in real-time – and our hope grows.
If you’re with us, please consider donating $25 or whatever you are able for the fight ahead.
Wherever you are today, we encourage you to take the time you need and come into the fight swinging – we are here and will be here, no matter what.
Yours in this fight,
Olivia and the rest of the NYCC team
