Dear John,
Election Day is over, and I want to acknowledge what many of us are feeling and experiencing right now. We have poured our heart and time into doing everything we can to build a better world for Black people – and for the nation as a whole. We are united by the collective choice we all made to protect and uplift our community. I know that seeing the outcome last night and this morning is a blow to our hopes and vision for justice. This moment is hard. It’s OK to sit with that pain. Your feelings are valid, and they speak to the depth of your conviction and commitment to this work and our community.
As we process what this election means, let’s remember that we carry the legacy of a long, proud, and unbreakable movement. Those who came before us faced challenges, setbacks, and hardship. We can’t allow this moment to define the arc of our work or shatter our courage to continue. We build on the legacy of our teachers, mentors, and ancestors; we also are the stewards of a legacy for a better, fairer world for our children.
Even with the path ahead, we have immense power to push for the changes that matter. Our work doesn’t stop. It will adapt, transform, and continue. We are part of the force that protects our community from cruelty and oppression.
Tomorrow, Color Of Change will host a Post-Election Town Hall to discuss the urgent work we need to do to protect each other in the face of a white supremacist government and to build the less hostile and more humane world for Black people that we all envision.
Join us on Zoom on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, from 7 to 8 p.m. EST/ 6 to 7 p.m. CST/ 4 to 5 p.m. PST for our Post-Election Town Hall!

No matter who is in office, we know we are the answer for our families, communities, and country.
We hope to see you and hear your voice at the Post-Election Town Hall. During this virtual event, you will hear more about what we’re doing currently, preview our 2025 plan, and what we need from members like you to continue this fight.
