Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I am thankful and honored to be re-elected to serve the people of House District 37A, which includes the communities of Corcoran, Greenfield, Independence, Loretto, Maple Plain, Medina and western Maple Grove! Thank you for your trust. I will continue to work hard for everyone in our wonderful district!
Now that the election is behind us, I can resume my official newsletter. It will still only be occasional until the new Session starts on January 14, 2025, but I want to keep you all in the loop as events warrant!
As you know, we had an historic election on Tuesday night! House Republicans re-elected all 64 incumbents and flipped 3 seats, which means the Minnesota House is now equally divided – 67 Republicans and 67 Democrats. Read more on what this will likely mean below.
Although I truly enjoy campaigning and getting to connect with so many people individually, I am excited to also get back to work on policy priorities!

Election Results
The 67-67 tie in the Minnesota House has officially ended full Democrats control of state government. Two races, Districts 54A and 14B, were so close that they will likely have an automatic recount. The recounts are unlikely to change the outcome, however, so it is widely expected the House will remain tied 67-67.
The only other time in state history there was tie in the Minnesota House was in 1979. This resulted in a negotiated power-sharing agreement. Here's a good article that outlines how it worked and some of the complications that arose.
Minnesotans elected Republicans to have equal control of the Minnesota House. We will negotiate a power sharing agreement for the 2025-2026 Legislative Session that reflects that reality, because full Democrat control of state government is now over.
We are ready to engage in good-faith negotiations and find common ground on issues that matter most to our constituents. Minnesotans want us to set aside the extreme partisanship that defined the last two years. Minnesotans have wanted us to work together and now we will have to do it in order to pass a budget and other priorities.
The recounts and negotiations could take several weeks. I’ll keep you updated occasionally, as warranted. I look forward to serving in this historic session and working for our district and our state!

New Office:
As you know, I have been trying to stop the $730 million “Palace for Politicians” that is being built in St. Paul. As construction continues, our House offices have been moved to the Centennial Office Building on the opposite side of the Capitol Complex.
Once session starts on January 14th, you can find me in on the Second Floor of the Centennial Office Building, 658 Cedar Street, St. Paul, MN 55155. My email is still [email protected] and my office phone number is still: 651-296-7806.
I hope you all enjoy the rest of the fall! I’m looking forward to a few days off with our family over Thanksgiving!
