Yesterday, I wrote to you seeking community. I told you about the complicated feelings the team and I are wrestling with in light of the election results, and I asked you to share yours with us.
I have to say, I was blown away by your response. So many of you shared honest, heart-wrenching, and even hopeful messages that eased my anxiety this morning. I want to share just one from our friend and fellow advocate, Pastor Janet in Pittsburgh: “I will not let this election keep me from working to end gun violence, racism and sexism in this country and state I so love…For the sake of our children, we must go on!”
I agree, but it’s going to take all of us working together. We must focus on what we can influence, and recommit ourselves to our gun safety movement here in PA right now. So I’m humbly asking, will you read my message below and invest $25 today to help us push for the gun violence prevention legislation we all deserve, and counter the darkness that still surrounds us today?

Begin Forwarded Message: Fellow Advocate, We just got off our team huddle, where we shared our fears, tears, and deep anger with the news this morning.
With a second Trump presidency looming, I know I’m feeling uncertain, anxious, and despondent. I’m angry that, once again, Trump was able to con so many people into putting him in office. And I’m fearful that more families will lose members to gun violence because of the firearm policies his administration is likely to put in place.
How are you feeling after this election? I want to know, because you are an integral part of our movement. You can click this link to share your thoughts or simply reply to this email. |
Today, as I’ve been talking with partners and volunteers in our gun violence prevention movement, and as I’ve been connecting with people who knocked doors and made phone calls this election – I’ve started to awake from the angry despair. We lean on each other, we celebrate and cry together, and we hope for a better future. We rest when needed, and then we look ahead, because lives are on the line.
Our movement isn't about one moment, one loss, one victory. A movement is about the people. About the community. About the world we believe in.
We’re still waiting for the remaining votes to be counted, which will determine whether or not we keep our slim gun safety majority in the PA House and will play a large part in setting our strategy. So I'm not here to tell you what's next. That will happen in the future days as we regroup. I’m simply here to be in community with you and invite you to join me in sharing what you’re thinking and feeling today.
The road to a safer PA just got a little bit longer, the path less clear. But, that will not deter us. And together, carrying each other, we can find a way to move faster toward a life free from gun violence. |
