Mary Louise Kelly, George Packer, and Williams Burns discuss why the
presidential candidates should be paying attention to America's changing
role in the world.

How important is it that the candidates running for US president have
foreign policy experience? “Judgement and character matter most of all,”
says former diplomat William Burns, “but if you can combine [foreign
policy] experience with that, it’s a real asset.” Foreign affairs haven’t
been at the forefront of the buzz around 2020 democratic candidates but it
shouldn’t be ignored given America’s position in the geopolitical world.
Burns, president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace,
[3]speaks with journalists George Packer and Mary Louise Kelly about the
importance of foreign policy experience among past presidents and current
hopefuls.

Scandal

A recent report from a Congressional subcommittee [5]shows the US Olympic
Committee, and other institutions, could have stopped Larry Nassar’s abuse
but failed to do so. At [6]Aspen Ideas: Health, two survivors talked about
the investigation and sexual abuse. “Until people believe the survivors,
we’re always going to have this kind of problem...The system has to
change,” says Trinea Conczar, survivor and co-founder of Survivor Strong.
