Voters in Georgia and across the country, including me, are still processing the results of Tuesday’s election.
This election cycle, Georgia Democrats built a movement across the Peach State — one built on Vice President Kamala Harris’s hopeful vision for a new way forward. Vice President Harris was always the underdog, and we knew this would be a tough fight.
We opened dozens of offices across the state, hired hundreds of paid staff, and consistently kept Georgia consistently in the national conversation. The election results do not reflect the work on the ground.
To every person who organized, knocked doors, made phone calls, and made their voice heard: THANK YOU!
Donald Trump is poised to raise costs on working families, further rip away reproductive freedom, fray relationships with our allies, and put Americans’ hard-earned benefits on the chopping block.
Georgians are still rejecting this extreme agenda across the state: we not only defended every Democratic seat in the State Senate, but also flipped two crucial seats in the House, with others still too close to call.
Overall, we increased Democratic turnout in Georgia by 60,000 votes. The momentum remains with Democrats fighting for reproductive freedom, Medicaid expansion, gun safety, and an economy that puts working families first.
Georgia is still a battleground, and we are ready for the next fight.
Today I’m reminded of advice gifted to us by my friend, mentor and predecessor, our beloved Congressman John Lewis:
“We used to say that ours is not the struggle of one day, one week, or one year. Ours is not the struggle of one judicial appointment or presidential term. Ours is the struggle of a lifetime, or maybe even many lifetimes, and each one of us in every generation must do our part. And if we believe in the change we seek, then it is easy to commit to doing all we can, because the responsibility is ours alone to build a better society and a more peaceful world.”
