Just released:?Jurisdiction of State Attorneys General Offices over White-Collar Crime, 2014

This report is based on the first survey of state attorneys general offices conducted by BJS. It examines jurisdiction over white-collar offenses, penalties for criminal and civil white-collar offenses, sources of referrals of white-collar cases, and the circumstances under which such cases are referred to outside agencies.

Selected Highlights:

  • In 2014, 42 attorneys general offices reported having jurisdiction over criminal white-collar offenses, and 36 reported having jurisdiction over civil white-collar offenses.
  • Thirty-three attorneys general offices reported having jurisdiction over both criminal and civil white-collar offenses in 2014.
  • The most common criminal white-collar cases handled by attorneys general offices involved medical fraud (32), false claims and statements (31), or insurance fraud (27).

Findings are based on data from BJS?s 2014 Survey of State Attorneys General Offices.
