Still counting votes…
The votes are in, but San Francisco Francisco has only counted about 1/2 of all votes so far. As things stand, our campaign has 72,931 votes, ahead by 3,123 votes. I’m optimistic, but this race is going to remain close, and the final count may take many days.
We ran an amazing campaign. We were endorsed by organizations and leaders across San Francisco, including the Democratic Party and Nancy Pelosi. We campaigned in every district in the city, and our volunteers dropped 100,000 pieces of literature. We did the work.
I expected the race to be very close, and that has driven home how important every single bit of effort has been. Hundreds upon hundreds of you donated and volunteered, and even more spread the word to friends and family. I started this journey because I care deeply about our education system, and I have been inspired by how many people have joined in the effort. As we watch the votes slowly trickle in, my heart is filled with gratitude.
At the same time, people are processing what it means to have a President who has said he will eliminate the Department of Education, and stop funding California schools. At minimum, this makes it that much more important that we have capable leadership guiding our school system through financial crisis, teacher shortages, and mismanagement. So far, at least 72,931 people voted for our campaign to do just that. If our lead holds, I’m ready to stabilize our finances, to fight attacks on education access and quality, and to ensure every child can fulfill their potential.
