Dear friends,
We know many of you are feeling disheartened, even fearful, at the prospect of another Trump presidency. This is a difficult moment for our community, and it’s okay to feel a sense of despair. But now is not the time to lose hope or give up.
Our strength lies in what we do best: organizing locally. Our fight against authoritarianism begins right here, with us. History has given us the blueprint for resistance, and we will stand together to push back against Project 2025—a plan that threatens our rights, our freedoms, and our future.
This cycle, our members went all out for candidates like Chris McCreight and Iwen Chu, and worked hard to educate voters on undemocratic ballot initiatives that now threaten to impact NYC governance for decades. We knocked thousands of doors in Pennsylvania and spent countless hours phone banking for Kamala Harris. We campaigned alongside organizers for Prop 1 and enshrined abortion and anti-discrimination protections in the New York State constitution. Over the past four years, we played a crucial role in ushering in the City Council’s first female majority and most diverse membership ever. We’ve fought against a system that concentrates power in the hands of a few insiders and those who work with Republicans to unseat incumbent Democrats. This moment has made one thing clear: our city, and our country, are hungry for a new era, and Brooklyn Young Democrats will be part of that change.
Like everyone else, we need to take a moment to evaluate our resources, refine our plans, and determine how to be proactive rather than reactive in the face of so much uncertainty. If you are here in Brooklyn—join us. Let’s continue fighting for our most vulnerable neighbors, for our communities, and for our democracy. We refuse to let anyone take away our hope or our will to fight.
The uncertainty ahead may be daunting, but we are equipped with the collective energy, commitment, and ability to shape the future of Brooklyn and beyond. The fight for democracy, justice, and freedom is ongoing, and it requires all of us.
The work ahead may be hard, but we are ready. We’re not going anywhere. Together, we will resist, we will rise, and we will continue to fight for a brighter tomorrow.
