=============================

Dear John,

I don’t know about you, but everyday is a roller coaster of emotions, and the daily responses from this administration are enraging and deeply concerning. At the very same time I am also incredibly inspired. We as neighbors, friends, families and even strangers are showing up for each other in new and beautiful ways and working with renewed purpose. We are filling in the gaps across our communities where the administration and corporations are silent. And this crisis has laid bare what our communities need to survive.

I’m asking for your support right now to meet urgent needs of our neighbors and residents who are excluded from the safety net.

Under ideal federal leadership, we would have a mindful plan to take care of people’s health while also directing public dollars to the people that need it the most. Instead, cities and states have had to step up to offer immediate assistance while certain actors within the federal government treat responding to COVID-19 like it’s an episode of Shark Tank.

Some of our local affiliates have set up immediate relief funds that will go directly to the people most marginalized from public benefits: undocumented workers. All of the funds we describe below will go directly to laid off workers who cannot access federal aid. If you are in a position where you are saving money or receiving stimulus checks that you do not need, we ask that you do what our federal government has failed to do and share your check with people who need support to meet their basic needs. Each link below allows you to make a direct donation to the groups leading these efforts:

- 805 UndocuFund: [[link removed]] Operated by our partners CAUSE in the Central Coast of California. Over 7000 people have signed up for the waitlist since this fund re-opened.

- OUR Fund: [[link removed]] Operated by El Centro Legal in partnership with our affiliate EBASE in Oakland California, the Oakland Undocumented Relief Fund provides support to immigrant workers who live or work in Oakland and have lost their income as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

- Arizona Hospitality Relief Emergency Fund: [[link removed]] Operated by CASE our affiliate in Arizona to direct funds to laid-off hospitality workers who cannot access unemployment benefits.

Right now the need for immediate relief is enormous. And, we are keeping our vision set on the long term change that we need, which is why the Partnership for Working Families and our 20 affiliates across the country are also working to defend roll-backs of basic liberties, expand the opportunities for authentic democracy, and identify multiple strategies to anticipate and defend working-class communities of color against predatory corporate actions. We ask that you make a second gift to the Partnership to support our work in fighting against and reducing the harms caused by disaster capitalism.

Unfortunately, there is no single solution that will change this system; we need multiple changes in multiple systems at the same time. That’s why the Partnership has long focused on advocating for and highlighting the priorities and needs of the people who fuel our economy: working class communities of color. There is no going back to the way things were, and we are keeping our eyes set on the permanent structural changes that we need in order to live in a multiracial democracy that works for all of us. I am so deeply thankful to be in this movement with you. Thank you for all you do.

In Unity,

Lauren Jacobs
