Last night’s election results in the United States were pretty hard to digest. We don’t want to waste your time with platitudes about how everything will be okay or even talk about the breakdown of the election. We think it’s more useful to go off what we know for certain now: Donald Trump is going to be president in January. But, a majority of Americans oppose U.S. support for Israel, and don’t want their tax dollars funding weapons that murder innocent people and destroy the earth. A greater majority of Americans oppose the U.S. starting new wars. It’s okay to feel deflated and discouraged, but don’t forget that the people are on our side – all we have to do is reach them. We will continue to do what we have always done: educate by exposing horrific violence carried out by those in power, activate a movement for peace, and cultivate local communities that represent the world we want to live in. Solidarity is our best friend. Finding new and creative ways to scratch at power is our path forward. Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) is a proven tool for affecting change, and today we launch our Boycott Netflix campaign. Last month, Netflix failed to renew the films on their former “Palestine Stories” page. We’re calling on you to boycott Netflix until they reinstate the films and add more. Storytelling is an act of resistance, a way to preserve Palestinian history and identity against Israel’s propagandized narrative that has justified occupation and ethnic cleansing for generations. Netflix is silencing the truth, leaving propaganda that obscures the reality of occupation to go unchecked against Palestinians’ lived experiences. We will continue to apply the principles of BDS by boycotting Netflix for their erasure of Palestinian stories and demand support for the Senate resolution that could block a $20 billion arms transfer to Israel — here’s how you can join us: 👉 Call Netflix using this script and cancel your subscription and/or let them know you’re joining the call to #BoycottNetflix! Reply to this email with a photo confirming your canceled subscription for it to be added to a collage with others who took the action! After canceling your Netflix subscription, make sure the Senate hears your demand to do the right thing and stop arms transfers to Israel! 👉 Call your Senator and demand they support Sen. Sanders’ Joint Resolution of Disapproval (JRD)!
Our work doesn’t start or end at the White House. We’re committed to challenging the root of injustice — wherever it resides — and that means acting now as a unified movement. Now, it is our profound responsibility to keep mobilizing and organizing the vast majority of Americans who are opposed to going to war and arming Israel. It’s time to talk to your neighbors, friends, and family that may be feeling lost after this election and let them know there’s a movement that’s ready to take them in and give them the tools to make the change they want to see.
