Autumn Budget is a step in the right direction for alcohol policy
On 30 October 2024, the Chancellor of the Exchequer set out Labour’s first budget in almost 15 years, announcing changes to taxes and government spending to the nation.
Offering a key moment for the Government to take action to address alcohol harm, it included three notable announcements related to Alcohol Duty. This is a type of tax paid by companies that produce alcohol, who over the years have enjoyed huge profits from alcohol. However, they have not paid their fair share of the cost of tackling the harm that it causes.
