Christopher Luxon’s Government is taking New Zealand backwards.

The Prime Minister has now personally signed off on the Treaty Principles Bill and ACT’s divisive agenda, despite saying he doesn’t support it. He’s refusing to show any leadership or answer questions on it.

Labour, the Greens and Te Pāti Māori stand united against the Bill. It is important we show our opposition to this plan to divide and re-write our history.

It is divisive: It undermines the last 50 years of progress we have made as a country to recognise and compensate for past breaches of the Treaty.

It is a waste of money: A conservative estimate put the cost at $4 million. This is a waste of money when families across New Zealand are struggling to make ends meet.

It has little support: Every party except ACT opposes this bill, yet National and Christopher Luxon are too weak to stand up to them and are allowing it to be heard.

We strongly reject the Government’s Treaty Principles Bill and oppose its early introduction today. 

The Government has rushed the bill’s introduction to Parliament, presumably so it can get ahead of the hikoi to Parliament and avoid more scrutiny.

We will continue to advocate for a future that respects Te Tiriti and moves Aotearoa New Zealand forwards.  

Stand with us to call on the Prime Minister to kill the Bill now. He still has time to stop it in its tracks.
