Team — First and foremost, thank you. I’m deeply honored to be re-elected as your United States Senator, and I’m humbled that you’ve put your trust in me to continue the work of leading this Commonwealth forward.
I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve accomplished during my first two terms in the Senate. We have fought to build up our economy so everyone can thrive — to invest in our nation’s infrastructure, in our nation’s families, and in our nation’s global standing. We have won those fights in so many ways, and I will continue pushing them forward.
In this election, the people of Virginia have made clear that we are not mean-spirited, pessimistic, name-calling complainers — that we are indeed stand-up, can-do, get-the-job-done people.
We stand up for democracy and equality. We stand up for economic opportunity. We stand up for guarding the rights of all. Most importantly, we stand up for each other — and I will keep doing just that in my third term in the Senate.
The result in the presidential race is not what we hoped for. I’m proud that Virginia voted to put our 13 electoral votes behind Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, and I’m heartened that tens of millions of people voted to do the same around the country.
Over the next four years, we will face challenges as a country, and we will meet them the same way we have for centuries: together. As Vice President Harris often said on the campaign trail, we have so much more in common than that which divides us — and we will hold that close as we begin this next chapter.
There is so much more work we have to do — in Virginia, in the country, and in the world. We need to keep working towards an economy that works for the many, not just a few. To protect access to affordable health care and reproductive freedom. To fight gun violence and to battle for a cleaner environment. To promote peace around the world.
As we look ahead to all of that work, I am fortified by the strength, energy, enthusiasm, and perseverance that you embody — and the progress that you’ve demonstrated.
Today, I am reminded why I got into public service 30 years ago, and why I ran for re-election to the U.S. Senate: To stand up for what’s right. To stand up for equality and democracy. To stand up for all my fellow Virginians and Americans, whether or not we agree.
In good times or bad, I will never stop standing up for you.
Onward,
Tim Kaine
