This isn’t the email I hoped to send you today.
The 2024 presidential election results are in, and unfortunately, the race has been called for Donald Trump.
I want to acknowledge how frightening, disturbing, and nerve-wracking this news is for so many people across our country — I know I’m personally feeling profoundly disappointed. The first Trump presidency was nothing short of a disaster, with his administration pushing racist, sexist, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, and other dangerous policies while completely fumbling the COVID-19 pandemic, endangering our environment, and putting the wealthiest few before working families.
Trump and his MAGA extremists promised to deliver more of the same in their Project 2025 manifesto, including further restrictions on abortion access, mass deportations, roll-backs to environmental protections, an end to the Department of Education, higher taxes for working families with more tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, and the potential end of our free and fair elections.
I want to assure you that as Attorney General of California — the top law enforcement officer of the state — I am actively preparing for the legal fights ahead to stop these attacks on our rights, freedoms, and well-being.
We’ve stood our ground and resisted Trump’s bigoted, backward agenda before, and we’ll do it again — together. I will do everything in my power as Attorney General to stop this administration’s harmful policies from impacting you, our families, our friends, and our communities.
I won’t lie, it’s going to take a lot of time and resources to defend our state from the MAGA agenda during these next four years, which is why I’m counting on grassroots supporters like you to fuel our fight.
Please try your best to take care of yourselves and each other as we work together to stand up to the forces of hate and fight to defend our freedoms during this tumultuous time.
Know that my team is here, watching every step of the incoming Trump administration, and we won’t hesitate to take action as necessary. We will get through this, with California leading the way.
In solidarity,
Rob
