Today I am feeling a range of emotions.
I am filled with gratitude and admiration for the historic campaign led by Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz that was grounded in a vision of justice, dignity, and opportunity for everyone who calls America home. This campaign inspired millions to volunteer, and they motivated waves of supporters and first-time voters.
They gave voice to our collective dream for a more inclusive and compassionate nation. Their strength and conviction showed us what’s possible, and reminded us of the work that lies ahead.
I am also filled with grief. Elections have consequences.
But I can't help but recall a line from a poem I once read: “This, my dear, is the greatest challenge to being alive — to witness the injustice of this world and not allow it consume our light.” We will not let this consume our light.
While this moment, and the outcome we are facing, is nothing short of devastating, we must remember that our fight for justice, democracy, and progress has always been about more than one person or one election. Now more than ever, I still believe in the strength of our movement, the clarity of our vision for a more just world, and the impact of the work we do every day — from Congress to community. As Vice President Harris said today, the light of America's promise will always burn bright as long as we keep fighting for it with joy, with enthusiasm, and with conviction.
I know you also may be feeling a range of emotions right now. Give yourself permission to feel them all. Take the time to rest — care for yourselves and your families and friends. Know that our progressive movement is strong, our vision is clear, and our light will never be consumed by injustice.
But if you are feeling motivated to channel your feelings into action, and ready to roll up your sleeves for our communities, here are a few ways that you can keep up the fight:
I remain clear-eyed about the work ahead, and steadfast in my commitment to the people of the Massachusetts 7th and vulnerable communities across our country. We fought, we organized, we voted, and I am so proud of this team for showing up. Our work to protect and restore abortion rights, stand firmly in defense of our Black, brown, LGBTQ+, disabled, and immigrant neighbors, and fight relentlessly to safeguard our democracy and fundamental freedoms carries on.
While we work to mitigate the hurt and harm the next four years may bring, I am committed as ever to fighting for my district and everyone who calls this nation home.
Together, we will keep pushing forward.
