From her time as one of the only black public finance lawyers in Alabama, when she delivered financing for new campus facilities at Alabama State University, Tuskegee University, and Stillman College, to her work as Congresswoman for Alabama’s 7th District, Terri Sewell has delivered results every step of the way. Hi folks,,

The American people have spoken, and have chosen a new President. Like so many of you, I am saddened by this result — but our democracy demands that we respect the will of the American people and work to facilitate the peaceful transfer of power. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the thousands of poll workers and election officials for their service to our nation, and I offer my congratulations to former President Trump on his victory.

Despite the outcome, my job remains the same. Where possible, I will work with the incoming Trump Administration to advance the needs of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District: from tackling inflation to investing in our rural communities and small towns. But make no mistake — when it comes to protecting our fundamental freedoms, our democracy, and our most vulnerable Alabamians, I will never back down. I promise to do everything in my power to hold President-elect Trump accountable when necessary.

We can be disappointed. We can be frustrated. But what we cannot do is give up. As John Lewis reminded us, ours is not the struggle of one day, one week, or one year. Ours is the struggle of a lifetime.

Let us keep the faith and keep our eyes on the prize.

In hope and solidarity,

Terri Sewell
