Like many of you, we woke up today with profound feelings of dread and grief for the rights of women, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, and frontline communities in the U.S. who will face heightened threats and attacks under Project 2025. We reject and will resist any assaults on communities here and abroad, as well as on the Amazon and our global climate, which are both on the brink.

Donald Trump’s first administration was marked by a complete disregard for environmental justice and human rights. We all remember his attacks on policies designed to protect our planet. A second term will likely be even worse. In 2017, Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, and he now promises to gut the E.P.A., recklessly expand fossil fuel production, and undo the progress we’ve made toward a just transition to a clean energy future.

Frankly, resisting this oncoming assault on environmental justice will be harder this time around – but we’ve done it before, together.

For nearly three decades, we’ve defended environmental and Indigenous rights against those who aim to dismantle them. We can expect renewed efforts to silence those who speak out for social and environmental justice in favor of fossil fuel interests and the wealthy investors behind them. So, our voices must be even stronger.

Our movement has the strength and commitment to face this threat again. Just as Brazil is moving forward in a post-Bolsonaro era, we too can survive a second Trump administration. But to succeed, we need your continued and mounting support and solidarity. The Amazon, and the Indigenous, traditional, and local communities who live there, will face even greater threats under harmful U.S. climate policies, unchecked corporate greed, and increased attacks on Earth Defenders already at risk.

We must fight even harder against the rise of authoritarianism – and we must not give in to fear and despair. Remember, authoritarian power thrives on fear, isolation, and the exhaustion caused by constant chaos. We cannot let these forces wear us down.

We must come together in community and in solidarity. We are with you today, and we need you with us, too. Today, we mourn; tomorrow, we wake up to organize, resist, and fight back. We are resilient!
