Esso Pipeline and Turf Hill: At the start of April, I chaired a Zoom meeting between residents, Councillors, Affinity Water, Natural England and Esso to ensure that all parties had the opportunity to hear the points of view of local residents. Following that, on 8 April, I made a further submission to the Planning Inspectorate to reiterate my concerns about the Turf Hill section of the pipeline, and to also highlight the potential impact of Esso’s proposal on the Windlemere and St Catherine’s SANGs in Surrey Heath. Access to MOD Land: A number of constituents have been in touch to express their concerns about accessing the Ash Ranges and Deepcut Woods. I raised this with the Minister of State for Defence Procurement, Jeremy Quin MP, and he has agreed to a meeting, which will take place tomorrow. Residents may also be aware that the MOD is proposing changes to the byelaws (which govern public access) and I will post details of the Consultation on my Facebook page as soon as possible. I had an online meeting with Cllr Paul Deach and Attieh Fard in late February about this, and contacted other nearby MPs who also have MOD land in their constituencies. A joint meeting with the Defence Secretary is due to take place in several weeks’ time, and I will provide a further update thereafter.
Lightwater incursion: Lightwater residents faced a difficult and distressing time last month, due to the unauthorised traveller incursion, but the determination of local councillors to ensure a resolution could be found was instrumental in securing necessary action. I am grateful to Surrey Police for serving a Section 61 Order on those responsible for the incursion, and I would like to thank Cllr Rebecca Jennings-Evans, Cllr Katia Malcaus-Cooper, Cllr Jarmila Halovsky-Yu, Cllr Chris Hartshorn, Cllr Valerie White and Cllr David Mansfield, as well as Cllr Alan McClafferty for their hard work and focus on finding the right solution.
British Airways: Following the airline's announcement of its redundancy plans, many constituents have been in touch about their fears that they will lose their jobs. I appreciate this is an extremely worrying time for the staff and their families, and I am monitoring the situation closely. I understand that the Department for Transport has been in contact with British Airways, and I will convey constituents' understandable concerns to my ministerial colleagues. The House of Commons Transport Select Committee questioned Willie Walsh, CEO of BA’s parent IAG, on Monday 11 May, which you can watch here.
Surrey Heath Prepared: This is a fantastic campaign, and its wonderful volunteers are doing a brilliant job in helping those in need during the Covid-19 pandemic. Frimley Health Trust: I am so incredibly proud of the brilliant team at Frimley Health. I have been receiving updates from the Chief Executive, Neil Dardis, and from his colleagues in the Frimley Health and Care Integrated Care System, and it is clear that everyone is doing a fantastic job in very difficult circumstances – they all deserve our admiration. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the local community, volunteers and businesses for all the wonderful support given to Frimley Health Trust during the pandemic. I know it is greatly appreciated.
