Friend,
Make no mistake, the election results are a huge setback for women's reproductive health and for efforts to address overpopulation. In the immediate aftermath of any victory or defeat, it's all too easy to fall prey to exuberance or despair. Elections are snapshots. In this instance, they reflect the dismaying state of our nation at this moment in time. While we were hoping for outcomes that would advance our cause and our mission, we must not be dissuaded by even the most dreadful outcomes.
Instead, we must and will maintain a sharp focus on the challenges facing our beleaguered planet. When, as is inevitable, Trump re-imposes the odious Global Gag Rule and other terrible measures, we must and will speak up in opposition.
It remains to be seen which party will control the US House of Representatives. Regardless, we will work closely with our allies in the House and the Senate to do whatever we can to limit the immediate damage and to lay the groundwork for its reversal.
We must and will continue to educate and advocate on behalf of a better, safer, less crowded world for all.
The only cure for darkness is light.
