Friend,
Today, we face the unfortunate reality of Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 Presidential Election. For many of us, this is a worst-case scenario.
Many people in this nation from a multitude of historically marginalized identities are feeling fearful, anxious, and angry at these results. As heavy as this outcome is for us – especially young people who fought tirelessly, many of whom before they were even eligible to vote — our work does not end here. This is just the beginning.
This is an invitation to transmute our fear and anxiety into intentional action that relentlessly pursues transformational change. May our anger serve as the fuel required to unwaveringly commit to making our dreams of liberation a reality.
This election has highlighted the critical need for youth activism and engagement. We must remain vigilant in our commitment to bring forth a United States that lives up to the creed of The New Colossus and bring forth the America that Langston Hughes once too sang about.
Through intergenerational organizing with young people at the helm, we will organize our communities to usher in the dream of Martin Luther King Jr. The sacred human and civil liberties of young people from all walks of life are at risk. In the words of the great poet Aja Monet, “anything that is sacred is worth fighting for… we are worth fighting for.” Fighting like hell is just what we’ll do!
Despite the heart-wrenching outcome, young people continued to vote to make their voices heard online and offline. This reinforces the importance of continued engagement in the political process.
Future Coalition was proud to commit $350,000 to support organizations focused on empowering young voters. We equipped young people with resources to combat misinformation; resourced independent expenditure campaigns in four key states; and navigated the complexities of the electoral process intellectually, materially, and emotionally.
Now more than ever, we must stay connected to one another and align behind a plan to build a future for all Americans.
Future Coalition invites you to join our community to stay abreast on organizing opportunities and access points for resources to bring forth the changes we seek. Remember, civic engagement begins at the ballot box, but community organizing, advocacy, and aligned action are required to usher in the transformational change we are here to bring about.
Onward.
