Yesterday, reproductive freedom was on the ballot. This morning, we awoke to a new era of reproductive oppression and a newly emboldened national anti-choice movement.
Anti-choice extremists gained political power in a direct threat to the lives of women, girls, and birthing people everywhere.
Trump is a liar, an adjudicated rapist, a xenophobe, a racist, and a cruel demagogue who seeks to destroy and reshape our most basic democratic institutions for his own personal power. He will trample on our hard-won fundamental freedoms to do so. He is not without powerful allies, including a conservative Supreme Court, an anti-choice U.S. Senate, and powerful anti-choice extremists at state and local levels.
This is our reality. We must be prepared. We cannot look away. Right now, we’re feeling grief, anger, and numbness. There’s so much to feel, it’s hard to know what to say.
We’ve already been grieving the unjust deaths of women and girls due to draconian abortion bans, even as the news cycle moved on. It’s easy to feel alone and frightened, without others who share our beliefs. There is so much grief and anger and pain.
We must remember that they lie. Whenever an anti-choice extremist says abortion bans don’t kill, know it for a lie. Whenever an anti-choice extremist calls for a ‘national abortion standard,’ know it’s just an abortion ban by another name. Whenever anti-choice extremists say they will protect women, it is an outright lie.
