Hello John,
This is not the message I was hoping to write to you today. Last night was a wake-up call for us, and we are looking at a very difficult couple of years for our country. The blame game has already started. That is the nature of DC politics, but that is also why we lost. DC politics dominated this election cycle, and it is the furthest thing from what Americans across the country are concerned with. I do not want this message to be filled with excuses and resentment; we lost, and now we have to own it. I know many are angry—you donated, you supported, and we didn’t deliver. We will do better, we will gather the information, we will learn from our mistakes, and we will continue to fight on.
Our Vice President stepped into one of the toughest battles in political history, launching a presidential race on an accelerated timeline. Unlike Trump, who had years to prepare and consolidate support, she had mere months to rally the country.
In the next couple of days, staffers across the country, including us at No Dem Left Behind, need to regroup. We need some rest. You need to regroup, and we all need to prepare ourselves for what is to come. I won’t lie to you—it’s going to be hard. If we go at it alone, we will be crushed, but if unity gives us a fighting chance—and we have shown in the past that it’s all we need—then America will soon remember why they disliked Trump so much. When that time comes, we need to be prepared to provide the country with an alternative path forward. This starts with going back to our roots and winning back Rural America.
