John, what’s happening is hard to process – I am angry, I am sad, and I am once again faced with the reality of how hard working for progressive change actually is.

Four more years of resistance seems daunting — exhausting, maybe even impossible to sustain.

But the work that Run for Something does is imperative to protecting communities that Trump will harm – and is necessary if we’re going to make it out of a second Trump presidency intact.

The fight is once again returning to cities, counties, and states. We will need fierce school board members willing to protect public education. We will require strong municipal leaders who will fight for their communities in the face of an adversarial federal government. State legislators will be asked to do it all — protect the right to vote, expand access to abortion care where they can, advance climate legislation and more.

In the short term, our work with state and local leaders will be instrumental to stopping Trump and the MAGA federal government from the absolute worst they can do. 2025 is not an off-year — we are already recruiting candidates for school board and municipal elections, and building a pipeline for the 2026 midterms.

Long-term, we are doing the hard but necessary work of rebuilding the Democratic Party from the ground up. We have to solidify our bench and make sure our candidates can win at every level for years to come.

The last eight years, this community has shown what is possible: We’ve elected more than 1,000 folks — including close to 100 just yesterday, with more wins to come. I’ll be back in your inbox soon with more updates on how our candidates fared, because even with a devastating loss at the top of the ticket, there are still some bright spots.

Have hope. We have to continue to make progress and it’s going to take every generation together to do that.

Commit right now to a recurring donation to fight for our future. Stick with this work for the months and years to come.

Thank you. It means the world to our team and to our country.
