We can grieve. But then, we must mobilize. This isn’t the first time a nation has lurched to the right, and it is NOT a reason to give up on the vision of a brighter future we worked toward.

John,

Last night did not go the way we had hoped. As Democrats, we organized, volunteered, talked to our friends and family, and did everything we could to present a vision for the future: one that is pro-reproductive justice, pro-climate, and pro-working class. And please know, we are still committed to that urgent work.

And today, I’m sitting with the knowledge that we fell short.

There’s no way around it: there is a right-wing shift throughout this country we saw in real time as swing states turned red one by one. I was just as horrified as you to watch it all happen, and to be honest, I’m still reeling.

So, what now?

Today, we can grieve. But then, we must mobilize. This isn’t the first time a nation has lurched to the right, and it is NOT a reason to give up on the vision of a brighter future we worked toward.

I want to encourage you to lean on your community and find connection, even when your instinct is to pull away.

This is the time to buckle up, check in on your loved ones, stay engaged in your community, and stay alert. We will all do what we can to show up for each other and demand progress from elected officials on every level.

And John, you have my word that I have your back in Congress. In my second term, I promise you that I will be relentless in pushing for the policies that Americans desperately need, from housing accessibility to reproductive justice and beyond. This is the moment we are called to act, and I thank Vermonters for placing their trust in me once again to represent their interests.

I’ll be in touch soon. In the meantime, take care of yourself –

Becca
