[1]Stand Up America
There is no sugarcoating it. Trump’s victory is a devastating blow to our democracy and our fundamental freedoms. And it is a personal blow for so many of us, particularly millions of vulnerable Americans who are terrified right now. Sharing the news with my two young children this morning was one of the worst moments I’ve faced as a parent.
There will be a lot of finger pointing in the coming days, some of it has already begun. While this is a moment to speak hard truths about our nation, how we got here, and what we’re facing, it is not the time to turn on our own—or on the millions of Americans who organized and voted to protect our democracy and our freedoms. This is a time to stand together and to be there for our loved ones and most vulnerable neighbors.
As much as this loss stings, I am grateful to each and every one of you for standing on the right side of history and for the work that you’ve put in over the past months and years. Stand Up America was founded in the days after the 2016 election to resist Trump’s corrupt and dangerous agenda, and since then, millions of you have done everything in your power to protect our democracy and each other.
It will take time over the coming weeks and months to chart the path for resisting Trump’s second term, but we are not powerless. Your voice still matters. Your activism can still change lives. And as we have for the past eight years, our nearly two million members will resist Trump’s attacks on our democracy and the rule of law, and demand that our elected officials use every tool at their disposal to do the same.
Our nation has faced periods of remarkable turmoil in its 250-year history, and this is certainly one of them. As we face the uncertain days ahead, I draw strength from the knowledge that in so many dark moments, millions of Americans have picked themselves up and joined together to resist injustice and protect the most vulnerable among us. Now it falls on us to do the same.
As always, thank you for standing with us,
Sean Eldridge
